I’ve run the 40-mile version of this race twice and the 24-mile race twice. This is the most beautiful and challenging race I have attempted. The altitude contributes to some of the most breathtaking views (pun intended) and the most challenging terrain. This race is definitely not intended to be your first trail race, and I wouldn’t recommend it to the untrained or uninitiated trail athlete, but it should absolutely be on your bucket list! This is a well-organized race, and I’ve never felt unsafe on the highest peaks, knowing the safety crew is watching. The aid stations are well stocked with friendly people, along with good food and drinks ready for grab-and-go. The finishing rewards are always useful and creative, and the finish-line atmosphere is fantastic. Did I mention the incredible views? Train hard and run this race! You will never regret it.

I’ve had the privilege of participating in the Telluride Mountain Run twice, and while I unfortunately had to DNF at mile 30 during my second attempt due to an injury, both experiences were incredibly rewarding. The race offers a stunning and unique opportunity to run through the breathtaking mountains surrounding the town. The event is very well organized, with excellent aid stations serving delicious food, and the volunteers are always cheerful and encouraging, which adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. That said, training is essential, especially for higher elevations. The race rarely drops below 10,000 feet, and the altitude can make breathing challenging at times. However, the breathtaking views and the constant array of beautiful sights make every tough moment worthwhile. Despite the physical demands and the soreness that lingers afterward, the joy and sense of accomplishment I feel from running the Telluride Mountain Run is something I’ll always cherish. It’s a race I look forward to returning to year after year.
